Year in jail for texting while driving offender who caused fatal car accident

17 year old Rachel Gannon of Kansas City was ordered to jail for a year for violating her probation stemming from a guilty plea to second degree involuntary manslaughter, third degree assault, and violating Missouri law prohibiting motorists 21 and under from texting while driving. Ms. Gannon caused a fatal traffic crash back in May and was given a suspended sentence in exchange for placing her on probation for five years. Her case is one of the first criminally charged cases involving texting while driving since the law took effect in 2009.
